Clouds and . . . oops!

We were admiring the fantastic clouds yesterday - aren't these great?!

They changed to look like many small fluffy marshmallows floating through the air,

then they started merging into larger marshmallows, and finally it looked like the large marshmallows were colliding with something unseen and going flat.

We knew there was a storm brewing, but it looked like it was to the South and the wind was blowing toward the South also, so we figured we wouldn't get more than a shower.  Boy were we wrong!!!  I have never seen such wind and rain!  And the thunder was so loud - wow

OK, well a great storm is one thing, BUT . . . we had put our tents out to air them out, and in the case of the big one, scrub it down (it was stinky and mildewy - don't ask).  Yes, I checked the forecast!  It made no mention of clouds, much less death defying thunder storms!  Needless to say, both tents were flattened!  The big one ripped some of the stakes out and those that did not come out of the ground held tight to the fabric of the tent and kept doing their job.  We found two tent stakes, in the ground, with the loop of fabric for staking the tent down still attached.  One pole is bent, beyond recognition almost.  One pole is gone - I don't know where.  Apparently the big tent is done for.  I would have taken a photo, but when we rescued that one it was raining so hard it would have ruined the camera - the boys and I were very, wet and windblown!  The little tent was a bit more resilient.

It only had some of the stakes ripped out of the ground, so it toppled sideways and one of the fiberglass pole sections was severely splintered.  The camera focused o the wrong thing, but if you look closely, you can see the thin lines going straight up and down - that is part of the tent pole.  Check out the crazy bend too!  Yikes!

I taped it!  It only took half a roll of duct tape, but it will serve until we buy a replacement pole.
