What a Busy Summer!

I know it's been next to forever since I posted, and I apologize for being so slow.  Our spring and summer this year have been tremendously busy!  I know I took photos of some of this stuff, but I cannot find them right now.  And my camera got dropped at fair this week, so it'll most likely be a while before more are forthcoming.

In June the boys played on the "traveling" baseball team in the Cal Ripken league.  It is more competitive than the community sports league they have played with in the past.  Their teams did not do very well, but they both enjoyed playing and learned a lot as they developed their skills.

More recently the boys participated in the 4-H State Shoot competition.  They did well for their first year.  Joshua placed 8th in individual shotgun with scores of 18/25 and 12/25. He was ranked 12th in the handicap and 10th for overall individual shotgun.  There were 22 kids in the field from all over the state. Both boys also participated in .22 rifle and archery, but their score were much lower here.

And now the event that has completely consumed our world for the last few weeks.  This week the 3 older kids participated in the county fair.  Josh entered exhibits for leather craft (a custom knife sheath - purple ribbon and eligible to send to State Fair) and shooting sports (a poster on the parts of a shotgun - blue ribbon).  Ben entered exhibits for gardening (a poster identifying some local weeds - blue ribbon) and shooting sports (a poster telling the archery safety rules - won the big purple ribbon and a blanket!).  Hannah entered her rabbit, Snowball and earned reserve champion and a nice duffel bag. You can see pictures of Hannah showing Snowball here. Overall the kids did a fantastic job and we are very pleased with their first county fair experience.

Next year it looks like Josh will do shooting sports and leather craft again, he really enjoyed his time learning these skills and wants to continue.  Ben will probably do Lego robotics and possibly just archery.  Hannah plans to show Snowball again.  Some of the kids are flirting with art or photography and meat pens of rabbits or chickens for market, so we'll see.

Next week is VBS and then hopefully we will get a little bit of a break from the extreme busyness. Hopefully.

    1. Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that she had a major meltdown just before the show. Full on, blubbering tears for 15 minutes, she was SO scared she couldn't do it. But, as you see by the smile at the end, she did great! :)
