Ok, I know it's supposed to be geese a-laying, but we have hens, not geese. And they have started to lay! We are so excited! We
discovered 5 eggs yesterday evening (Grace broke one, so there's only 4 in the picture) and one more this afternoon. Yahoo! We'll have to butcher the last set of meat birds soon; they are starting to crow, but the darn things are still skinny. We'll go with nothing but Cornish next year - they get fat fast! So we're almost down to our winter stock of hens, though I don't think there are actually 10 of them. I'm guessing closer to 5 or 6. I guess we'll have to sort that out for good soon. So, I was wondering . . . if we purchased 10 sexed (meaning decidedly female) chicks last spring and now that they are grown we only seem to have 5 or 6 females, can we take the others back and get a refund of bird plus food? I'm a little peeved that there were so many males when they were supposed to be females. On the plus side, at least there are enough females - what if we'd only bought the five we thought we needed and only one or two of those turned out to be female? I guess we'll count our blessings!
