The House

Ah yes, the house.  The house has been a little bit more of a challenge than we (or I, anyway) initially thought it would be, but there are some bright spots, too.

Let's start with the floors.  We pulled up a corner of the carpet in the back bedroom - since this house was built in 1965 there was a good chance of finding hardwood under there.  What do you know, there were gorgeous wood floors!  As we carefully peeled back the carpet in both of the bedrooms, we found that they were indeed in very good condition.  Commence the pulling of carpet!  Don't they look great?!?!
Wow, can you see all the paint colors on the trim board?  On a side note - at some point in time, both bathrooms, two bedrooms, and the kitchen were painted the pink seen in the photo to the left.  Was there a big sale on yucky pink stuff?  Eeeewwww!

Back to the floors - we now come to the living room, which will actually be used as our homeschool room (can you imagine, a whole room for books, computers, and school stuff!? Wahoo!).  The carpet pad was stapled a bit more securely, so the carpet came out and then we went back for the pad.  Under the pad we found that the floor was . .. unfinished.

Not just unfinished, but unfinished with large blops of white paint, streaks of red marker(?) and green spots too.  My sweet husband tackled it with a hand sander - yikes!  This was ok until (don't you love that word?) until, we applied the finish incorrectly and ended up with bubbles.  Lots of bubbles!  Now, I like bubbles, but not in the finish of my floor.  So, to solve this new problem we had to drive to Casper and rent a professional floor sander.  Then we applied the finish the right way - with much better results!

The Plumbing.  We soon found that if one person took a shower in the upstairs bathroom, a person stading in the tub in the downstairs bathroom could get a simultaneous shower without turning the water on.  Now, some might view this as frugality in showering, but we were not so inclined.  A friend came over and replaced and replumbed the fixtures in the upstairs shower, which helped for a while.  Then we unexpectedly had a more substantial shower downstairs than before.  Joseph tore out the wet part of the ceiling - shown to the right and found an offset pipe that must have worked its way loose in all of the prior repairs.  Click on the photo to see more clearly.
